We were on the Milford Trek in New Zealand some years ago and it was pouring rain. We decided to throw on our jackets and go for a walk. While hiking, we ran into a German couple that was also doing the Milford Trek. They just smiled and said, “No bad weather, just bad kit.” That has stuck with me ever since and it is so true. Bad gear can really put a damper on a trip while good gear can make any unpleasantries disappear. Over the years, here’s some of the best gear we’ve found.
