The travel pack is a nice hybrid between a soft sided suitcase and a backpack. They typically have shoulder straps like a traditional backpack but also zip open like a clamshell suitcase. The nicer ones have sturdy waist belts and places to hide the straps for airline travel. If you can find one that fits well, these packs can carry quite a load without making you feel miserable.
